And so it begins.
Last night, at a Special Meeting, the Borough Assembly approved the following motion:
5b Approval of a Non-Binding Letter of Intent and Confidentiality Agreement with the City & Borough of Wrangell and SEARHC
So what does this mean? Basically, that the Borough and SEARHC agreed to kick the tires on SEARHC assuming operations of WMC. This also opens the door to create a steering committee tasked with laying out the groundwork for the potential transaction.
Some key language is that the letter of intent is "non-binding." Nothing was agreed to with the Assembly's motion, except that the entities would start discussions.
Facing decreasing revenue and deteriorating facilities, the Borough and WMC are looking to SEARHC as an option to keep a critical access hospital in Wrangell.
