A big thank you to the WMC staff and community members in attendance for last evening's community update on the new hospital project. Those in attendance were treated to some updated design images of the proposed SEARHC healthcare campus, including the updated concept art of the campus exterior.
Compared the initial design concept, there are some noticeable changes in the building's exterior. Not just because the image itself has been fleshed out, but due to discussions on work-flow with WMC staff. In order to better serve our patients, the floorplan has been changed, thus the footprint of the campus is quite a bit different.
Over the past two months, Wold Architects have been visiting with each WMC department head and key staff members. In those meetings, Wold is listening to the needs of WMC employees, with a goal of providing staff the layout needed to maximize work flow - thus allowing them to provide the greatest level of service possible to all patients. Those meetings have taken the original concept floorplan ...
And transformed it into the following:
As you can see, they've added a service hallway at the north end. In the process, that created the opportunity for the courtyard at the heart of the hospital wing. Rehab flip-flopped spaces with the Laboratory, so PT patients could easily access said courtyard. You may also notice another small courtyard has been added on your way from the hospital to the clinic. There are actually utilities running under that area, so a courtyard and corridors provide easier access to those utilities than fully constructed rooms, just in case.
We'll be diving into each department in the new design in the coming days/weeks, so keep checking this blog for new posts. Just thought that the new external image was too cool not to share immediately, and the floorplan makes it look and feel like something - like a hospital.
