Health Fair, No Foolin'!
March 2017 - This year's Health Fair will start at 9 am on Saturday, April 1 in the Nolan Center. Hours have been extended to 1 pm in hopes that folks who are working that day can make it to the Health Fair over their lunch break.
There will be a number of new vendors this year including a booth with information about the Mariners Memorial project, Wrangell Fitness, "YIPPEE", and free hearing screenings. Some old favorites include the AICS Teddy Bear Clinic, the Fire Department's free blood pressure checks and the US Coast Guard.
As in the last couple of years, there will be no 'stamps' to collect rather there will be a 'scavenger hunt' with a few short questions to answer in order to be entered in the grand prize drawing for two Alaska Airlines tickets (good system-wide, except Cuba, must be 18 years old to enter the drawing). Other prizes include a youth bike and children's bike as well as other door prizes offered by individual vendors.
Anyone who took part in the Health Fair blood draws will be able to collect their results at the Health Fair (in the classroom - where blood draws used to take place). Janet Buness, RN, will be available to help with questions about results and AICS clinic staff will be available to make appointments with your doctor or provider. Two copies of the Health Fair results will be given to you - one for you, one for your provider, please remember to take the second copy with you to your next appointment. Finally, please be sure to bring your ID (due to health information privacy laws we are only allowed to give results to the person who's results they are). Any results not picked up at the Health Fair will be mailed out the first business day after the event.
