Wrangell Medical Center's lab staff have recently added an offsite lab, based at the Tideline Clinic campus, to help reduce unnecessary travel for patients between the two facilities. This is just one of many ways our laboratory staff embody our mission to enhance the quality of life for all we serve. WMC's lab is critical to the success of Wrangell's annual Health Fair, offering many hours of additional staff time to organize, implement and process the thousands of additional lab tests which are a result of the reduced-rate blood draws made available during the Health Fair. The lab also performs, accurately and with a high degree of quality assurance, the following tests and services as needed:
Testing in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, rapid serological tests and blood gas analysis.
Perform blood typing, antibody screening, and cross-matching of blood units.
Certified personnel collect for DOT urine drug testing and send to designated reference lab for specimen processing.
Offers in-home blood-draws for seniors and others unable to easily come to the hospital for the service.
Other lab testing available through certified reference laboratories.
Laboratory Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an appointment to have my blood drawn? No appointment is necessary. When you need lab work, come to the front desk in the lobby of WMC and the staff will register you for lab work, as long as your orders have been sent by the providing physician.
My test asks me to be fasting, what does this mean? In most cases fasting is not eating or drinking twelve to fourteen hours prior to testing. Patients can only have water. However, fasting can vary and if there is any question you should contact the lab at 874-7126 to verify what you should do.
Should I take my medicine prior to my blood work? You can take all your medicines at the regularly scheduled time unless you need food with it, in which case, wait to take your food and medicine until after your blood is taken. Please contact the lab at 874-7126 if you are not sure.
Can I get a copy of my results? Yes, you can get a copy of your results. You must sign a release if you want your records released to yourself or to another physician other than the ordering physician. You will need to pick your records up from the Health Information Management Department in person.
How long will it take before my physician has results? Results for blood tests conducted on-site at WMC are sent to the physician on the same day they are drawn. Lab tests performed outside the WMC lab are available in 2-3 days, on average.
