August 2014 – Despite driving rain, a large number of Wrangell Medical Center (WMC) staff and their families gathered at Muskeg Meadows Friday evening for a Staff Recognition Picnic and the inaugural induction of thirteen WMC staff into the new “Quarter Century Club”. Many of the thirteen have actually worked at WMC much longer than the 25 years needed to be included in the group and, as a group, have acquired an impressive 417 years of service to the community as WMC staff.
These thirteen also represent roughly a quarter of the staff at WMC, the bulk of whom also received pins for terms of service at five, ten, 15 and 20 years. Janet Buness, RN, who, at 47 years, has the longest record of employment at WMC, introduced her fellow inductees and helped present a beautiful ‘iceberg’ award to her co-workers. This year’s quarter century club includes: Janet Buness, Alysse Maxand, Donna Wellons, Linda Sue Jack, Diana Nore, Shelly Massin, Jeanie King, Roxanna Coblentz, Cinda Stough, Twyla Nore, Jane Bliss, Cathy Gross and Suzie Byford.
In addition to the award ceremony, staff enjoyed a ‘Western’ themed picnic dinner which was sponsored by the WMC Board who also helped set up for and serve the meal. The event also included a photo corner, complete with a desert scene backdrop and hay bales. The driving range, putting green, golf carts and Frisbee rounded out the evening's entertainment.
