Cancer Care is the Focus of the Rally and Blue Tees Weekend
While the WMC Foundation's Brian Gilbert Memorial Tournament Weekend might be the largest fundraising event of the year, the Rally (women's) and Blue Tees (men's) tournaments in August are focused entirely on supporting the Foundation's Cancer Care program and those who are battling the disease.
Equally important to the fundraising goals, are the emotional support and encouragement for those who are fighting cancer and the remembrance of those who have lost the battle.
The Rally, in particular, is all about fun, with relaxed team sizes and a 'Fun and Frolic' tournament format that is less about keeping score (we don't) and more about who laughs the hardest (because laughter IS the best medicine). The event builds camaraderie among the women participants and provides a safe place to share battle stories, personal experiences and information - especially relating to breast cancer.
The men are a bit more serious during the Blue Tees event, however it, too, helps bring awareness to an uncomfortable subject - prostate cancer - which is only just beginning to see the same attention and funding that has come to the aide of those suffering from breast cancer. It is hoped that support for prostate cancer will one day equal that for breast cancer - and we are doing our part to see to it.
Both events include a picnic style lunch at the end of tournament play and an awards ceremony to cap off the day.
