Wrangell Public Schools, an Award-Winning Education
Wrangell Public Schools serve roughly 290 of Wrangell's children and youth from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Evergreen Elementary School (K-5th grade) is a past 'Blue Ribbon School' and the smaller class sizes (14 students on average through 3rd grade) allow for close interaction between students and teachers.
Stikine Middle School and Wrangell High School offer a number of activities, over and above the normal school-day curriculum, which includes sports such as wrestling, volleyball and basketball for middle school students with the addition of cross country, drama, debate and forensics, softball and baseball for high school students. Band and choir students also have opportunities to excel - tryouts for Southeast Honors Festival are held early in the school year and the annual Southeast Alaska Music Festival brings students together from around the region to compare skills and learn new ones. The shop and art classes have launched boat-building and painting careers and brought a variety of techniques - from wood shop to stained glass - to the attention of Wrangell's youth.
